Let's Talk About Shoes.....Again.

I love shoes. What woman does't love shoes? When you are as tall as I am and have feet as big as mine (11-12 depending on brand), finding cute shoes is really hard. Let's not even mention that when you are as tall as I am, you so often get questions/comments like "Why do you wear heels? You're already tall.", "You couldn't wear heels if I were dating you. ha ha ha. Just kidding" (no he isn't), or "You don't need those". Well, you know what?? I DO need them. More than anything I want them. I don't tell a short person that they should wear heels when they don't, so people should't tell me I can't wear heels because I'm tall. Let me clarify...I am not upset about people's opinion. I am simply annoyed with people feeling that it is not only acceptable, but somehow necessary for them to express their unsolicited opinion to me. A lot of you do not know me well enough yet, but I am quite outspoken, openminded, and inappropriate, (Yes I meant to say inappropriate. We will get to that and address it in a later post) but I do not just walk up to strangers and offer them my opinion.


Ok, enough ranting from me. Now onto the beautiful greatness that is shoes. Although I am not a huge fan of winter flats, I do like flat boots a lot. Today I will link you to some awesome places to find not only heels, but winter shoes as well. Let's get started.

I bought a pair of my favorite flat boots last year from Macy's, and although that exact pair isn't available, I do recommend their other shoes. I bought a sz 12 Aerosoles boots that were not only affordable, but also super comfy. Let's Talk About Pants

When you're tall, and especially a woman, finding pants is always a topic of conversation. Two tall women meet each other and the question of "hey, where do you get your pants?" always comes up.
Of course there are always the tall people sites like "Long Tall Sally", but it seems they try to take advantage of us because we are so desperate for long enough pants, and they raise the prices. I mean come on....$65 for a pair of yoga pants? That's just silly. SO here are some of my favorite places to shop when it comes to pants.

Old Navy Tall

Their sizes run big. I usually wear an 8 but I have to buy a 4 here. They also have yoga pants for $20 or less. The jeans are all quite stretchy for a better fit. The "Sweetheart" fit is one of my favorite fits as well as the "Curvy". Their skinny jeans in the "Rockstar" fit are just high enough in the waist, and hugs your butt just right to give it a lift. They run anywhere from the $12-$29 range. I always wait to get a coupon code, which you can usually find on Retail Me Not.

The Gap Tall
As I am sure you know, The Gap and Old Navy are owned by the same company. The Gap is just the slightly more pricey version. Now, I do not have a use for a lot of dress pants in my life, so I don't really own too many. I do buy manny jeans from them, and I have for several years. The "Long & Lean" cut is very frittering and will make you look slim. I prefer the "Curvy" because I am, well, curvy. The Gap's jeans are my absolute favorite ones of all time.

Alloy

One thing I REALLY like about Alloy is that not only have lengths from 32"-39" (yes you read that right. It is NOT a typo.) but they also carry size 1-25. Even the 39" inseam comes in a size 1 if you need it. Wow! I know right?! They are very reasonably priced. What I have noticed is that most sizes run a little small and the denim doesn't seem to work too well for an hourglass type figure. They do charge a $6.95 return fee, which is pretty annoying, so I tend to order a TON of stuff at a time and try it all on. By "a ton" I mean 20 pairs of pants at a time.

ASOS
Last, but most definitely not least, is ASOS. I'm obsessed with this store. They are not only affordable, but they are also very stylish. Their tall selection isn't huge, but I love them anyway. The price range on this site is from super cheap to uber expensive. It just depends on what you're looking for. I also love that they offer free shipping here and back all the way from the UK. They also provide the height of the model shown, as well as the size she is wearing. The also label each picture with either tall, petite, plus, or maternity. That way if you search for something like a dress, you'll know what's tailored to you without having to click on it every time to see.

Short Dress = Tall Girl's Shirt

Sooo.....have you ever seen that oh-so-cute little short dress online that you wanted oh-so-badly?! Yeah, me too. Have you then received said dress, only to find out that it is nothing more than a tunic on your long body, while leaving absolutely nothing on your bottom half to the imagination? Yeah, me too.
Well, not too long ago I was introduced to the term "Midi", in regards to dresses. We have all heard of a mini dress (aka shirt for tall girls), but with the midi we can still get a fitted sexy dress hat's just a little bit longer. If the dress ends up being too long, you can always have it made a little shorter for next to nothing.

Warning: make sure not to pull the dress down when it is measured by the seamstress or it will be too short. I lost my favorite dress this way.

One of my favorite online stores of all time is ASOS.com . They have some of the cutest dresses for lo prices. The great thing about them is that they have free shipping to and from, so anything you are unhappy with you can send back at no cost to you. They have tons of midi dresses in a million different styles (ok maybe not a million, but you get the idea). Here's an example of a simple, cute, and inexpensive dress that can easily be dressed up with some accessories.

Another thing that ASOS does is provide information about the model so that you can compare how it would fit on you, as well as provide a runway video so that you can see how the garment moves.

Next up we have 6pm.com. I have only shopped there once, but I did have a good experience. I recently found out that they also show their models sizes, which is incredibly helpful. I also realized that they use real women (by that I mean women of all sizes and not just uber thin 6ft models).

Tale Of The Long Limbs

If you're a tall woman (5'9" and above in my book), then you know how hard it is to find clothes that are long enough. Dresses often become shirts and pants can look like capris, so finding a large variety of cute pants, shirts, and jackets is quite the task. I spend countless hours online looking for the perfect pieces, and now I am bringing them all to you in one place.You can thank me later.lol I'm just kidding. On top of having to find things long enough, I am also a huge lover of great deals. Most popular sites have some sort of promotion going on at all times, and a great place to find out if they do is "Retail Me Not". Ok, now to the really good stuff. I have THEE hardest time with jackets. It seems that the makers of all of these jackets believe that if you have long arms, then you must be really big. Well, I finally found a really cute jacket, so I decided to buy it in two colors. The "Wool Moto Jacket" from The GAP is not only super cute, but it also fits great, and I LOVE it. The original price is $128, but I bought it when they were running a 40% off special. I bought it in a Tall Large , but I went into the store and tried a Regular Large, and it still fit pretty good.

Now, these jeans are some of my favorites of all time. The GAP 1969 Curvy Bootcut jeans are amazing. They make my butt look amazing. I have hips and a butt, but my waist is still fairly small, so it's really hard to find jeans that hug my butt instead of smush it. I also do not like low cut jeans since they give you a muffin top no matter how skinny you are. They do run small, and even though I normally wear a size 8, I have to order these in a size 4. They are reasonably priced at $69.95

Let me first say that yoga pants are for working out ONLY! They are not part of an outfit ladies. Please don't make them a part of your regular wardrobe. Having said that, these awesome pants from Old Navy are currently on sale for $14. They are thick (in a good way) and are of great quality.

These nice and stretchy skinny jeans are also from Old Navy and are on sale for $17. I love them and they fit great on a curvy body.

The tall girl's bible...

.....is what they should call the directory (that I am pretty sure I just created) where all tall girls can go to find out where to buy things that fit but won't cost a fortune. Whenever I meet a fellow above average woman, they always ask "Where do you get your jeans?" or "Where do you buy your shoes?". Although I have ONE friend who is 6 ft and wears a size 8.5 shoes, the majority of us wear a 10-13.

The problems I usually find is a) shoes is larger sizes aren't very cute b)websites for talls are overly expensive. I have about 65 pairs of shoes, and most of those are heels. The thing is that I love love love clothes and shoes, and I love dressing up, and I can't do this in grandma pants and hospital shoes. Just saying. What I have decided to do this evening, is some of the places that I shop. Lets start of with jeans.

If you are tall and slim then these are for you. These are The Gap "Long and Lean" $69.50

These are my personal favorite. I have curves which tend do get a little "squished" in a lot of jeans, but these "Curvy Jeans", also from The Gap, fit me perfectly. $69.50

They have several other fits and colors that are reasonably priced if you visit www.gap.com. They also carry Jackets, shirts, dressed, and skirts in tall.

One store that is a little more expensive, but carries some really funky pieces is TopShop. They have a section just for us. One of my absolute favorite sites is ASOS.com. The only downside is that they are based out of the UK, so returning clothes is pretty much impossible because shipping is so much. I even had to pay taxes once when it came through customs. I was slightly annoyed (uugghh). I just love their clothes, and if you shop the sale section like I do, you can find some really amazing things. Even though they don't have a tall section, you can see it say "more lengths" at the bottom of a picture.(like this----->)

 Also, they list the height of the model in each picture so you have a better idea of how long/short it would be on you. I found that the be VERY helpful. 

We also have Alloy, who carry up to a 37" inseam and sizes 0-25. Now don't be alarmed because the site says it's for teens, because the jeans are really cute and very inexpensive. One of the pairs of jeans I have from there are these----------->

Buckle also has jeans up to 37" inseam and 34" waist, which you can shop for here. Although Alloy is a 100% online store, Buckle is available at a mall near you.

Heels Anyone??

Heels are probably one of the biggest dilemmas for tall women. I often see tall girls with short heels on and I just shake my head. Here's my theory on tall girls wearing short heels.

"If you're a tall girl wearing short heels, 

you just look like a tall girl uncomfortable being tall"

Lets do the math here. I am 6'1 3/4" but for the sake of making this easier we will call me 6'2" for the following math lesson. The average American man stands 5'9 1/2" and the average woman is 5'4 1/2", so you are already going to be taller than most men no matter what you do. Now here is the basic math:

• 2" heels = total height of 6'4"
• 3" heels = total height of 6'5"
• 4" heels = total height of 6'6"
• 5" heels = total height of 6'7"

If you saw a person 6'4" and one 6'6", would the difference be that noticeable? Nope! Why? Because they are already really tall so it doesn't matter at that point. I figured that id I'm going to be 6.5" taller than the average American man, I might as well look sexy doing it. Taller heels are sexier, make your legs look longer and your feet look smaller, so in my eyes it's worth the extra 2". Here are some examples of the shoes I wear.

I use these two as an example because I just got them a few days ago but I have about 60 more pairs just like them and not a single pair have a heel shorter than 4". I probably go against all the standard rules of "How to dress well for a tall girl" because all those rules are meant to make you look shorter. I'm not trying to look shorter. I'm 6'1 3/4".....I don't think I can look much shorter. I wear high heels, skinny jeans, form fitting dresses, and I wear really short dresses. We will get more into clothes later but here is an example of me "breaking the rules".
