Embrace Your Height!

I'm sure I have said this before, but I will say it again, and I am sure I will say it yet again in the future.....EMBRACE YOUR HEIGHT!
I'm always the tallest one.
I get so sad when I read posts by women who say that don't like being tall. I was never uncomfortable being tall, but there were times as a teen that I sometimes wished I would have been a little shorter. One day I looked in the mirror and simply said "You are not going to get any shorter, and the world is not going to get any taller, so you might as well like it", and I did. I have been loving it ever since. Some of you may have read my blog in the past, but for those of your who don't know I am 6'2" and in my heels I am anywhere from 6'6"-6'7" depending on the shoe. If you do not like being tall, you are not hurting anyone but yourself. Don't hunch over ladies, please! It doesn't make you look shorter at all. It only makes you look like you have bad posture and you look uncomfortable.
Stand up straight, shoulders back, and chest out. Love who you are and don't make excuses for anything. If you have big feet (like I do), taller heels actually make your feet look smaller, so that's a;ways an upside. Heels make your legs look sexier, butt look better, and make you look sexier as a whole. Heels are your friend. Don't miss out on the fun, sexy, and feminine things in life by not wearing heels and enjoying your height. The sexiest thing above all is CONFIDENCE. Learn how to have it and just embrace your height.
The pictures are here for a little Tallspiration. I can't say it enough: "Embrace your height! Love your height!"

HOLY CRACK-A-MOLY!!!

I decided to whip something up for some friends on a sunday night, and I decided that I wanted to make a dessert along with dinner. Although I have always loved to cook, I have never been much for baking or making desserts. I have been baking cookies lately and I have also made a few poke cakes that all turned out delicious. These things are all pretty simple and pretty much require all of the ingredients to be thrown in a bowl all at once and mixed.
I decided to try something different this time and had my eye on a recipe for a "Butter Brickle Frozen Delight". Boy oh boy am I glad I did!! HOLY CRACK-A-MOLY!!! Here is the picture I saw that made me want to try it.

Doesn't that look SOOO good?! I just knew I had to have it in my mouth and in my belly immediately. This cake was insanely amazing!! It is like cake crack (I'm going to trademark that. lol). I can't stop eating it. I'm so glad I had people over last night to help me eat some of it, and that I don't live alone so that I have someone one help me eat it today. If I lived alone I would end up like Miranda from Sex And The City and eat it out of the trash.
I tweaked the recipe a little, and I definitely think it made it better (even though I have never made it exactly as the recipe described). First I used Dulce de Leche instead of caramel sauce (see directions here). I also didn't freeze the cake all the way, so it was creamy and fluffy. Oh my god it was so good I can't even describe it properly. I did get the recipe from Yummly, which is my new favorite recipe site.
I didn't have a springform like the recipe called for, but this cake pan worked just as well. I was pretty excited about each step like a kid. Look at my graham cracker crust! Isn't it so pretty?
Then there was the nuts and oat mixture. It honestly didn't taste amazing on its own, so imagine my surprise at the "Crack Cake" result.
I forgot to take a picture of every single step of the process, but I didm have time to take a wine break and take a picture.
Ok, back to the recipe. Here is my finished product..... mmm mmm mmm

You absolutely just HAVE to try this. It is the most amazing thing I have eaten in a while. Yes, having wine with it will make things even better, but even if you don't, the cake is the bomb. Here is the recipe....ENJOY!!

3 Step Dulce De Leche Carmel Sauce

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE sweets, so when I then find out that I can make homemade Dulce De Leche caramel sauce in a fool proof way, I was super excited. It is really the easiest thing I have ever done.

1. Boil a can of condensed milk for 3 hours (making sure the can is always covered in water).

2. Cool in cold water for 40 minutes
3. Eat and enjoy.

See! How simple is that? Oh wait, there's a 4th step....
4. Thank me.

CAUTION: Do NOT open the can while it's hot. It WILL explode all over the place and cause severe burns. Do not poke, prod, tap, or drop the can while it is hot.

Women Need To Be Weird More Often

I have never been one to have a ton of friends, and I have never wished I did. I have always kept my circle small because I value quality over quantity. However, as I have gotten older I have felt the need to reach out to people more and more, women especially. I have always been very social and outgoing, but I never really tried to make friends because I never felt like it was reciprocated. Women spend so much time judging each other instead of trying to support each other. If one woman is "too friendly" or reach out too much, then she is considered weird. This post is inspired by one of those "weird" women. I was at the gym when a young lady walked up to me and said "Excuse me. I'm sorry, I don't want to weird you out or anything, but I just wanted to know where you got your yoga pants". The fact that she felt like she needed to apologize, for possibly "weirding me out", is kind of sad.

As women, we should really reach out to each other more. We should accept others when they do reach out. We should support each other and not criticize each other so much. Let's stop talking negatively about the woman walking into the room, and let's try to be more positive and compliment her instead. On election day 2012 I was at a party by myself, and a young woman walked up to me and asked if I was there alone. She was outgoing and bubbly and asked me to come and hang out with  her and her friends. We hung out and chatted, and at the end of the night she told me her and a friend were meeting for brunch the next morning and asked if I wanted to join. She later told one of her friends, who jokingly said "what kind of lesbian shit is that?lol". I went to brunch that next day, and we have been friends ever since. We go to a weekly happy hour with 3 other women and 1 guy. I have had so much fun thanks to her being "weird".

After meeting this young lady at the gym, I thought to ask her if she wanted to hang out sometime, and see if she wanted to come to our happy hour, but decide not to because I thought she would think I was weird. I think next time I'll just go ahead and be "weird".

I really feel that as women, black women especially, we have to stop hating on one another and embrace each other instead. Let's all put attitudes aside and come together.

XOXO

TurboTax Thinks Tall People Are Gross

As I was sitting in my bed today, watching TV, (while being snowed in) I saw something quite disturbing.  But before we get to what exactly that was, let's ask the question that, apparently, only TurboTax knows the answer to: How tall do you have to be before it becomes gross?  Am I gross yet, or do I have an inch or so to go?  Before I go any further, let me present to you the TurboTax commercial of the hour in all of it's glory:

(listen to the very first question she asks)

(If you're unable to view the video click here)
As a proud 6'2", curvy, statuesque, strong, and future mother of tall children, I am disgusted by what TurboTax decided to say in its commercial.  It's bad enough that everyone feels the need to ask me whether I played basketball, and when I say I didn't, I clearly HAD to play volleyball.  Sometimes get tired of answering the same questions over and over.  So when asked if I played those sports, sometimes, I just respond with "don't all tall people?".  To top it all off it turns out that the majority of people believe that tall people are deaf too, which is why we can't hear them when they walk by us and say "damn she's tall" or "holy crap she's tall".  Would you walk up to a short person you don't know and say "how short are you" or "holy crap you're short"?  Probably not since it would be considered rude.  So why is it ok to make fun of, or state the obvious to tall people?

Imagine being a 13 year old young girl, standing 5'11" (like I did) and seeing this commercial.  I'm sure someone has already teased her, and she might wish that she were 5'5" like all of her friends.  She might be tired of standing out in every photo, and she might not want to stand up straight in the hopes that it will make her appear shorter.  So after all of this, she now needs to hear that being tall is gross.  Shame of TurboTax for approving it, the advertising firm responsible for creating the commercial, the actress for participating in it, and the director for not catching it.  Shame on all parties involved!  I think TurboTax owes the tall citizens of the world an apology.  I'm not much for asking people to like and share things on Facebook, but I am going to ask that everyone shares this, and demand an apology.  I feel like this may be considered a form of sizeism.  I understand that sizeism is generally a term used in the discrimination against overweight people, but according to some definitions it can include any type of discrimination against any size (i.e. tall, short, heavy, skinny).

Having said all this, let me make something very clear.  I am proud to be tall.  I love being tall.  I embrace being tall. I only wear heels 4" and up, I walk with confidence, I carry myself with pride, I hold my shoulders back, and I wear all the clothes the "experts" say tall women shouldn't (because they make us seem even taller).  Maybe it's the fact that the world can't handle all of our awesomeness that people don't know what to do with us.  After all, we strive to be above average in every aspect of life, so why not want to be above average in height?  So here is my message to that young girl out there that hasn't quite gotten comfortable in her beautiful (and oh so awesome) tall skin quite yet: Stand tall, put your shoulders back, put on your heels, walk with confidence, and always remember:

The world isn't going to get taller,
and you're not going to get any shorter,
so you might as well love it. -Dominique "The Tall Girl Diaries"

I seriously hope that people read this and remember that we are people, and not spectacles.

XO,
